Head Start defines school readiness as children possessing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for learning and life. MRDC Head Start program works in partnership with parents and families to make the transition to kindergarten successful.
We developed five school readiness goals to align with the five essential development domains:
1. Social and emotional development
2. Language and literacy
3. Approach to learning
4. Cognitive and general knowledge
5. Physical development and health
We use the Creative Curriculum, which is based on the most current research
determining how young children develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Children learn best by doing, and this curriculum helps support this belief.
Family and Community Partnership
You will be assigned a Family Development Specialist who will assist you in identifying your family’s strength’s and developing goals. In this partnership we will connect you with community resources to best assist you in attaining set goals. Our close contact with various community agencies will serve as a benefit to you and your family.
We offer a variety of training and workshops. Training topics are chosen according to interests and needs identified by our parents. Some examples are parenting skills, employability skills, budgeting, and health and wellness training.
