Strategic
Direction for 2000-2003
Mission Statement
Background
The
mission statement has worked well as a document that allows
for new initiatives, various points of focus, and comprehensive
understanding of the organization's reason for being. It was
reconfirmed in 1999 and during strategic direction planning
meetings in March and April 2000.
Mission
Statement
The
Maryland Rural Development Corporation is established to identify
and respond to the human services and community development
needs of eligible individuals, families and communities; develop
and administer program activities that address needs or cause
such programs to be developed. Consistent with available funding
and resources MRDC will focus throughout rural areas of Maryland
to improve the general human condition.
Abbreviated
Mission Statement
A
participant at the April 2000 planning meeting offered a shorter
mission statement that many thought expressed the full range
of the MRDC purpose in simpler terms. Participants felt this
abbreviated mission statement was in keeping with recent trends
to be plainly stated, easily repeatable, and memorable.
This
abbreviated mission statement, which the MRDC Board of Directors
may wish to consider at some point, is:
Providing
resources that promote self-sufficiency in low-income families
and building strong sustainable communities throughout rural
Maryland.
